The Rifleman (General Duty) is the backbone of the Assam Rifles — India's oldest paramilitary force established in 1835. Operating under the Ministry of Defence, Riflemen serve primarily in Northeast India, maintaining law and order, guarding borders, and supporting internal security operations.
💼 Job Duties & Responsibilities
Once selected, a Rifleman GD is expected to perform the following duties:
🔒 Internal Security – Assist in maintaining law and order in sensitive areas of Northeast India
🛡️ Border Guarding – Patrol and secure international borders along Myanmar and other neighboring countries
🚨 Counter-Insurgency Operations – Support Army in anti-insurgency missions
🚔 Anti-Smuggling Duties – Prevent illegal smuggling and trafficking across borders
🤝 Civic Action Programs – Participate in community development and public welfare activities
🏕️ Guard Duties – Protect important installations, camps, and government establishments
🆘 Disaster Relief – Assist during floods, earthquakes, and other natural calamities in the region
